About

In 1999, after selling his previous company, Mark Brower found himself partnered with a complete stranger in a golf tournament. After playing a few holes, Mark’s partner suggested an introduction with the Haas family, owners of Merchants Building Maintenance. The following Monday, Mark and members of the Haas family met for lunch before continuing conversations throughout the week. By Friday, Merchants Landscape Services was born.

Merchants began with no employees, no client list, no sales and marketing team, and no acquisitions. Merchants soon landed their first contract – Texaco gas stations – where they serviced all stations in Southern California. Gradually the client list grew to include Home Depot and other shopping centers in the region. The company’s big break came in the early 2000’s when they signed their first municipal contract and the rest is, as they say, history.

Merchants has grown to be the largest provider of municipal landscape maintenance in California. Our excellent reputation, and extensive client list, are evidence of our commitment to provide the highest quality municipal landscape maintenance in the industry. Currently under contract, we have more than 250 parks encompassing over 2,500 acres, while also maintaining over 5,000 acres of municipal landscape. Merchants Landscape Services has over 400 employees and maintains a fleet of more than 250 trucks and trailers. Company annual sales exceed $30,000,000 annually.

Our client list encompasses a wide range of industries from cities and municipalities to hospitals. However, nearly 100% of the company’s revenue is generated from municipality landscape maintenance contracts. Many of which are in the 10-to-15 years of service range. We posses a one-of-a-kind inventory of landscape equipment to handle any type of project.

We invite any and all prospective clients to contact our current clients regarding Merchants services.

Our employees are our most valuable asset which is why Merchants is one of only two landscape maintenance companies in California that are self-insured for workers compensation insurance. By doing this, Merchants maintains lower operational costs and is able to provide our clients with competitive pricing.

Simply put, municipal maintenance is what Merchants Landscape Services was built on and continues to grow with. Our entire staff is committed to it, and we thrive on the challenge every day.
